Cue Onegin!
16.02.2026

Leonid Yacobson Ballet Theatre has assembled a team for staging its newest show set to Sergey Prokofiev’s score: Onegin (stylised in Russian Cyrillic as Онѣгинъ). The project is supported by the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives. Choreography will be handled by ballet master Yuri Smekalov, personally invited on the team by art director Andrian Fadeev. His portfolio already features a number of productions inspired by Pushkin’s poetry, such as Reinhold Glière’s Bronze Horseman, which Yuri Smekalov choreographed for Mariinsky Theatre in 2016.

Viktoria Litvinova and Natalya Tkachenko will be assisting the choreographer. Andrei Sevbo will be in charge of production design, while Sergei Shevchenko will work on lighting for the show. Tatyana Leshcheva will be the project’s producer.
