In Memoriam: Alla Osipenko
14.05.2025

The inimitable Alla Osipenko was an undeniably unique figure in Russian ballet history. While her mastery of classical ballet was truly impeccable, she also had a remarkable inclination towards interpreting her characters in never-before-seen ways, working side by side with her renowned choreographer contemporaries.

The future People’s Artist of the RSFSR, who would rise to stardom under the guidance of the legendary Agrippina Yakovlevna Vaganova, first took to the stage at Mariinsky Theatre (Kirov Theatre at the time) in 1950. The great ballerina’s name is inextricably tied to the golden age of Leningrad ballet in the 50s through 80s. She would take on roles in classical and contemporary dance productions alike, with invariable success.
