Darya Elmakova, soloist at the Leonid Yacobson Ballet Theatre, ranked first at the Fifth Yury Grigorovich Young Ballet of the World International Competition, held from June 12 to June 21 at the Sochi Winter Theatre.


The guided tours were organized by Vladimir Zenzinov, curator of the theatre's museum and member of Leonid Yacobson's original Choreographic Miniatures company, and Aleksey Petrov, the theatre's chief administrator. The guests were greeted by the theatre's art director, Andrian Fadeev.


On May 27, during the City Day festivities marking the 311st anniversary of Saint-Petersburg's founding, the local theatres joined the Theatre for Everyone project. During the event, every visitor received an opportunity to take part in a great variety of special programmes, including backstage tours, visits to the workshops, insights into the theatre's history, and costume exhibitions.


The gala in the Palace Square in Saint-Petersburg was part of the celebration in honour of the 311st anniversary since the city's founding — also known as City Day — which began on Sunday, May 25. The dancers from the Leonid Yacobson Ballet Theatre performed three times during the concert.


On May 14, the Leonid Yacobson Ballet Company was invited to the Hermitage Theatre, where the dancers took part in the Hermitage Gathers Friends Together charity event, honouring the International Day for Protection of Children.


On April 29, members of the Leonid Yacobson Ballet Company took part in the CLASSICA-GALA concert at the Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Rimsky-Korsakov Saint-Petersburg State-Conservatory. The concert commemorated the 110th birth anniversary of Pyotr Gusev, Leonid Yacobson, and George Balanchine.


Members of the Leonid Yacobson Ballet Company took part in the Ballet world stars' gala, held in Saint-Petersburg from April 23 to April 28, as part of the 13th International DANCE OPEN Festival.


The Unknown Yacobson event was mainly dedicated to the least-studied pages in the ballet master's life story, as well as to those of his ballets and miniatures that had not been performed for many years. The discussion was held at the concert hall belonging to the Union of Theatre Workers of the Russian Federation, and featured appearances by guest speakers, such as the veteran members of the original Choreographic Miniatures Company, and performers from the Mariinsky and Mikhailovsky theatres.


In 1982, the UNESCO International Dance Council put forth an initiative to establish an International Dance Day. я танца. The date for the holiday was suggested by Pyotr Gusev, a teacher and choreographer from Saint-Petersburg, and founder of the Leonid Yacobson Ballet Theatre. The City of Saint-Petersburg celebrates the Dance Day with a lavish display of ballet masterpieces, as well as with creative workshops and exhibitions.


At 7 p.m. on March 30, Leonid Sarafanov, a principal dancer at the Mikhailovsky Theatre, took his unique classical dance workshop to the rehearsal hall at the Saint-Petersburg State Academic Leonid Yacobson Ballet Theatre, in Mayakovsky street.
