Andrian Fadeev prepares to multitask as art director at both Leonid Yacobson Ballet and the Mariinsky Theatre

We at the Leonid Yacobson State Academic Ballet Theatre would like to sincerely thank the St. Petersburg administration for supporting Andrian Fadeev in this momentous decision. Our art director and manager has been invited by Valery Gergiev to direct the ballet troupe at the Mariinsky Theatre. He will, however, also remain at the helm of the Yacobson Company, a position that he has held since 2011.

Various information channels are actively citing the statement that Andrian Fadeev made to the press on this subject, and we would be remiss not to include it here, translated into English. Our creative leader states: ‘I am grateful to the administration of St. Petersburg for the opportunity to continue working as art director at the Leonid Yacobson Theatre. I can feel an outpouring of constant support coming from the city, the Committee for Culture, and Governor Alexander Beglov personally. It was thanks to this support that our theatre managed to establish cooperation with outstanding domestic and foreign choreographers, revive the brilliant legacy of the troupe’s founder Leonid Yacobson, and start renovating our rehearsal venue. All this work is now reaching its culmination, which will open new opportunities for our creative team.’

We must reiterate that the city of St. Petersburg has been a core part of Honoured Artist Andrian Fadeev’s creative journey. Born in Leningrad, he graduated from the Vaganova Russian Ballet Academy (class of Vladilen Semyonov), and started dancing at the Mariinsky Theatre in 1995, becoming principal just two seasons later. ‘The Mariinsky Theatre is my home, this is where my creativity took shape,’ notes Andrian Fadeev. ‘I matured here, making an unforgettable journey as a classical and modern ballet dancer. And returning to this troupe as art director is an incredible honour and a true test of my merit.’

The entire Yacobson Ballet Company would like to congratulate our art director on entering this new stage of his career, which is both a great privilege and a great responsibility. We are confident that he will make impressive strides in his career, achieve professional breakthroughs, and win widespread recognition.
