The Gift of The Nutcracker

The Nutcracker, the world’s most famous Christmas fairy-tale, reigns supreme at theatres around the globe throughout December and January. This legendary ballet turned 130 (counting from the date of the world première at Mariinsky) on 18 December, or 6 December according to the Julian calendar. This marked the long-awaited start of ticket sales for the festive run of the public’s most-beloved show. Leonid Yacobson Ballet Theatre will present its Christmas extravaganza (in Vasili Vainonen’s classical interpretation) at the Hermitage Theatre on 19 December, at the historical venue of Mariinsky Theatre on 26, 27 and 28 December, and at the main venue of Alexandrinsky Theatre from 29 December to 8 January. What could be a better holiday gift than a family outing to see the legendary ballet masterpiece, surrounded by the lavish Imperial interiors of the oldest theatres in St. Petersburg? The show stars the best of the best from the Yacobson company.
